In October 2022, the ASPIRE Center was commissioned to collect UAS video of traffic entering and leaving the bus terminals on the opening day of the 50th annual Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta. As the remote pilot in command (RPIC), I was the primary contact with the local Flight Service District Office and the AIBF planning committee to obtain the appropriate waiver and develop a plan to safely conduct UAS operations during the event. Along the way, we captured some truly outstanding footage of the mass ascension!
